CPG is a collection of cursed digital monsters datamined from a creepy black game cartridge and locked away in the ETH blockchain in 2021. CryptoPokeGods are mysterious rare beings who are thought to still exist on some Red, Green and Blue Version cartridges. In 1999 a corrupt copy of Red version was returned to Ninten-HQ for research as it was rumoured some of these cursed monsters had started to reveal themselves in the wild with some even being captured and traded to other players, infecting more and more copies over time. The original corrupted game was put in a black cartridge and kept at a high security storage facility in Kyoto. In February of 2000, it was reported that the Kyoto facility was broken into with several historic gaming related items being stolen and never returned. These items included some unreleased console prototypes, the original Polybius arcade machine and of course, the black game cartridge. The game would change hands several times in the following years, from one collector to another, causing confusion, nightmares, sleep paralysis and bad luck to all who ever owned it. Eventually it was sold in a private auction to a group of video game historians/data-miners who were able to extract the cursed files and safely lock the monsters away forever.
